Our Guiding Principles
The Tide Has Turned was established to help people continue to travel while taking full account of the complexities and necessities of the world and the impact created by travel. Below you'll find some of the concrete and abstract ways we do what we believe.
Our Purpose
To help people continue to experience the enriching nature of travel in a newly holistic way, by means of an exceptionally personalised service.
Our Values
- Man is mobile and has evolved through movement - it is human nature to explore, experience and discover.
- Earth and its inhabitants should be better off as a result of our activity and our behaviour should induce positive social change.
- Fairness, transparency and honesty should guide all decisions and actions.
Our Beliefs and Behaviour
As a social enterprise, we think our beliefs and behaviour are as important as our product and service: actions speak louder than words. Beliefs are not enough; our behaviour must be demonstrative and provoke others to behave differently as well.
What We Believe |
How We Will Behave |
Travel can, and does, have a positive impact on human beings and is an integral, defining part of the human spirit. |
Exhibit and share passion for travel and the positive impact it has on our lives. |
People (employees, suppliers, partners and clients) must be treated properly, humanely, fairly and justly. |
We will do just that. |
Maintain the quality of life of our community by preferentially using local and ethical products and services. |
Carefully research and select whom we do business with. Preferentially choose local and/or ethical suppliers and partners. Publish and explain our choices. |
Trade fairly with everyone, not exclusively developing countries; everybody deserves their fair share. |
Ensure all parties receive a fair deal. |
The world need not be adversely impacted by human activity. |
Ensure what we do does not have a net negative impact on the world, its climate and inhabitants. |
Everything costs (financial, social or environmental); the costs of actions should be known, measured and considered; there is no such thing as free. |
Continually measure and take into consideration non-financial costs. |
One shouldn’t simply make a profit; what is done with it, where it goes and how it is used are of utmost importance. |
Investigate where profit goes at all points in the supply chain and consider it in all decisions. |
A balanced & rounded approach provides for the greatest positive net impact. |
Always take into account positive and negative factors and act accordingly. |
One should always give something back. |
Each year we will gift 1/3 of our profit to suitable charities or other social enterprises. |
